Developing the course

The Scottish Credit and Vocational Qualifications organisation was consulted, and the author of the course attended a workshop to see how many credits the course would attract and at what level. It was established that the course would be a level 7 (HNC in England, Northern Ireland and Wales).

The Scottish Qualifications Association was also consulted. They considered the course to be well ahead of its time. Pearsons in England were also consulted, but they do not have the same kind of arrangements as the SCVQ.

It was decided therefore to write a teacher’s manual encompassing Modules 9 and 10 of the course, materials from the BTEC in Education and Training gained at SRC, Newry, and those from Green Destinations.

The UHI system is here. However, due to the complexity of the course, no one tutor could be found to monitor the situation, although all were in favour. At Heriot Watt, they have a different system which is also excellent. At the workshop, it was discovered that not only is Scotland miles ahead in the matter of access, but also in education with this forward thinking system of the SCVQs not available in England. There are discounts for Friends of the North Highland Way. For this reason, some of the modules are protected, but you can still purchase the books on Amazon.
